MISSION

Our lab takes a systems and genome biology approach to the study of living species. We combine computational and experimental biology to study genomes and biological systems. In coming years we will expand towards employing tools from synthetic biology and genome engineering.
We study the structure, function and evolution of gene expression regulatory networks. Our emphasis is on the phase of protein translation. We are interested in the various factors that govern the efficiency of the process including the interplay between the tRNA pool in the cell and the translated mRNAs.
A prime angle of investigation is evolution. We study mechanisms of evolution that acts as optimization engine. We evolve yeast and bacteria in the lab with a dedicated robotic system and study the relationships between the environment and the changing sequence and structure of the genome. In parallel we investigate the cancerous genome as it evolves. We inspect the translation system in evolving microbes in the lab and also in cancer.
